Become a CVT in Colorado!

Did you recently graduate and pass your VTNE? If so, you are in the right place. The next step is to fill out your Initial Certification application (link provided below).

Initial Certification applicants are individuals who have recently graduated from an AVMA accredited school and passed the VTNE. An Initial Certification application requires submission of:

  • A COPY of either your diploma or official AVMA school transcripts

  • VTNE pass score

    • Note: When completing the online application through AAVSB to sit for the for the VTNE, candidates select the jurisdiction in which they choose to credential. AAVSB will submit score reports directly to CACVT for all individuals who select COLORADO as the jurisdiction of choice on their VTNE application. If Colorado is not selected as your preferred/primary credentialing jurisdiction on your VTNE application, you must request an online score transfer through AAVSB at http://aavsb.org/VIVA/score-transfers and it must be received by CACVT before your application is eligible for processing.

  • Initial Certification application (see link below)

  • Certification dues

Applicants must submit all materials together in one application using the online application. Once all application requirements are fulfilled and approved, you will be a Certified Veterinary Technician in Colorado.  Your name will then be added to the online Certification Directory, and a certification packet with certification card and certificate will be mailed to you. Please allow up to 4 weeks for processing.

All certifications are valid from July 1 of each EVEN year – June 30 of the following EVEN year.
ALL CVTs MUST RENEW CERTIFICATION BEFORE June 30 OF EACH EVEN YEAR.

Please familiarize yourself with CACVT's CE Guidelines, as each CVT is responsible for CE at the time of renewal.
