Erica Carr RVT, VTS (Dentistry) feels privileged to have been in the veterinary field for 24 years! Working beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado at Animal Dental Care and Oral Surgery has helped her love of dentistry grow into more of a passion. She is proud to be a part of teaching, organizing, and overseeing veterinary dental classes that are held monthly in Colorado Springs. While Erica is not working, she owns and operates a Mobile Vet Tech business, called Pet 2 Vet Connection, that creates a more relaxed experience for dogs and cats. Erica especially enjoys spending time in her greenhouse, off- roading in the Colorado mountains with her husband and her rescue Bull Terrier, Falafel, driving her Classic Mini Cooper around town and hanging out with her adult twin boys.
This course is designed for veterinary technicians and assistants of all experience levels. This workshop will empower technicians by increasing their knowledge in many aspects of veterinary dentistry and implement a higher level of dental care in a general practice setting.
Lecture:
- The 12-step Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment
- Basic tooth anatomy and oral pathology
- Performing a dental cleaning (ultrasonic scaling and hand instrumentation)
- Performing, and correcting dental radiographs
- Instrument care and sharpening
- Regional anesthesia
- Ergonomics in the dentistry suite
- Treatment plan implementation
Wet Lab
- Obtaining diagnostic radiographs utilizing canine and feline cadaver specimens
- Practicing regional anesthesia
- Ultrasonic scaling and polishing emphasizing the need for loupe magnification
- Hand instrumentation usage and importance
- Instrument care, including sharpening of luxators, elevators, scalers, and curettes
